BEFORE VISITING GALLERIES, art enthusiasts often found themselves struggling with a lack of information and direction. Deciding which exhibitions to see, understanding the art, and making the experience enjoyable were constant challenges. Gallery visits often felt incomplete and disconnected, leaving people overwhelmed and unsure of where to focus their attention.

User Research

To better understand our users and their pain points, we designed a few important research questions.

  1. What specific frustrations do you encounter when visiting an art gallery?

  2. Which types of content (e.g., artist biographies, audio guides, interactive maps) would most significantly enhance your gallery experience?

  3. How do you currently find information about the artists and their works during your gallery visits?

  4. What aspects of a gallery app would most enhance your overall experience?

  5. What additional information or tools would enhance your connection with the art and its creators?

Takeaways:

Accessibility and navigation are key areas for gallery improvement.

Artist biographies and interactive features are top user preferences.

Streamlined access to artist information is crucial.

Interactive features and detailed artist info are vital for app success.

Competitive Analysis

I conducted a competitive analysis to gain insights into existing solutions and identify opportunities to differentiate my product within the market landscape.

After analyzing the competition, I’m excited to design an app that combines search, artist connections, in-app purchases, detailed biographies, gallery locators, and sharing features—all in one, making the art world more accessible and engaging.

The Problem

  • Users face difficulty understanding the stories behind artworks while visiting art galleries.

  • Existing apps often lack features for direct artist connections and social engagement.

  • Purchasing art through mobile apps is not available in every existing app.

  • Users need detailed artist biographies and stories to feel more closed and connected with arts and artists.

  • Sharing favourite artworks or artists with friends isn't always straightforward.

The Solution

  • Develop an app with search functionality for easily finding artists, artworks, and galleries.

  • Integrate features that allow users to connect and follow artists directly through the app.

  • Include secure in-app purchase options for buying artwork.

  • Provide detailed biographies and stories about artists to enrich the user experience.

  • Add a gallery locator feature to help users find nearby galleries effortlessly.

  • Enable users to share their favourite artworks and artists with friends within the app.

  • Implement a QR code scanning feature in galleries to provide instant access to detailed information about specific artworks.

Persona

Meet Adam

Adam is a 36-year-old tech entrepreneur from Ohio.

He is passionate about art and constantly seeks new artists and prefers buying directly from them.

Adam faces challenges like limited artist information and a lack of thought process behind the arts.

He uses his phone to research and manage his collection.

User Journey Map

I used the information I gathered to plan how I wanted my app to work for users. This turned into a map showing the user's journey and emotions at each step in the app.
